On Friday, October 25, 2019, three games had the distinction of being CCSD inter-district games: Wheeler at Campbell, McEachern at Kennesaw Mountain, and Osborne at Allatoona. All three were region games and all three were lopsided as far as the score was concerned.
First up, the Wheeler Wildcats traveled south to Campbell Stadium to take on the Spartans. It was Senior Night for Campbell and senior members of the team, the band, and the JROTC were honored at midfield before the game. Once the teams were on the field for the game, Wheeler drew first blood and never looked back, taking a 17-0 to lead in at halftime. The second half was similarly all Wheeler, blanking the Spartans for a final score of 27-0.
At Kennesaw Mountain, it was Homecoming for the Mustangs. An extended halftime show introduced the Homecoming Court and crowned the 2019 Homecoming Queen. On the field, however, it was a less happy occasion for the home team. McEachern had taken a 21-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, and was looking to extend it as soon as the third quarter got underway. Two quick scores in the first three minutes of the second half from the Indian offense made it 35-0. The Mustangs found a way to score and put a TD on the board in the late third quarter, but the damage was already done. The Indians won the game 42-7.
In Allatoona, the Bucs jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. Osborne got within striking distance in the second and was able to kick a FG to make it a two-possession game at 17-3. The Bucs weren’t to be denied though, and added another three TDs before halftime. The second half was much the same—all Buccaneers. The final was 45-6 in favor of the home team.
Next week Campbell is at East Coweta, while Wheelerhas Westlake at home. Kennesaw hosts North Paulding, and McEachern welcomes North Cobb. Allatoona is at Dalton, and Osborne has the week off.
