The Walton Raiders defeated the Lassiter Trojans 45-17 on Friday. Raider senior tailback KD Stokes, who leads the Raiders in touchdowns for the season, had a five touchdown performance. Fellow senior receiver Justin McConnell continues to be the big play threat for the Raiders. Coming into this game, McConnell averaged almost thirty-five yards per reception. On the second play from scrimmage, quarterback Zak Rozsman lobbed a pass down the right sideline. McConnell managed to keep his balance and make the catch, which set up the Raiders for a short yardage touchdown. Rozsman read the Lassiter defense well, turning a couple of would-be sacks into first down runs.
The story of the night was the Raider defense. The Raiders picked off four passes, holding the Trojans to seventeen points on the night. Senior Will Chapman intercepted his third pass of the season. Sophomore safety AJ Brown intercepted two passes in the win, adding to his already impressive numbers on the year. The Raider defensive line also gets credit for the stellar performance, sacking the Trojan quarterback on several occasions.
At the end of the first half, the Trojans managed to put points on the board with a field goal as time expired. The fourth quarter held some bright spots for the Trojans as they scored their first two offensive touchdowns of the season.
Next Friday, Walton will travel to Etowah to take on the Eagles while Lassiter will host Roswell at home.
