On Saturday, October 19, 2019, South Cobb High School hosted the Cobb County Media Day to officially kickoff the 2019-2020 Basketball season. Held in their beautiful Performing Arts Center, several media outlets took advantage of the opportunity to speak directly to coaches and players.
“The Marietta Daily Journal, along with OST247 and PrepCircuit and, of course, Cobb Schools were all here to participate. We’re so excited for the chance to host this event,” said South Cobb Athletic Director Amanda Pittman.
Each team was given a chance to discuss the past, present, and future of their program, and many were very optimistic about the upcoming season. “Cobb County has some of the best talent in the state,” said South Cobb Boys Basketball coach, Gregory Moultrie.
Pope Girls coach Bill Blythe predicted nothing less than state play for his team: “We’ll be in the tournament again. We know we have the talent to be a state tournament team.”
Wheeler Boys coach Larry Thompson was also excited for the season, despite losing a lot of the team from last year. “That’s what it’s all about; guys come in and wait their turn to play. Next man up,” Thompson said.
Games will begin the first week of November. Plan to come out and support your favorite CCSD basketball team as they begin their journey this season.
