Due to the stormy weather that covered Cobb County most of last evening, the games scheduled for Friday were moved to Saturday (9/14/2019).
The Pope Greyhounds were up first, playing their home conference game against the Centennial Knights at 11 AM on Saturday. The Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead, closing out the first quarter up 21-7. Both teams played a fairly conservative second quarter to go into halftime with Pope ahead 27-14. The Greyhounds blanked the Knights in the third, while adding another 14 points to their side of the scoreboard. A back and forth final quarter made it 48-28, in favor of the home team.
The Harrison Hoyas traveled to South Cobb High to make up their game. A special weekend was planned for South Cobb, as they also held their annual Hall of Fame brunch on Saturday morning to induct five new members into the South Cobb Hall of Fame. The weather-delayed game was held on Saturday evening with the Hoyas besting the Eagles, 38-20.
The Pebblebrook Falcons traveled to Woodstock to take on the Etowah Eagles. The Falcons kept it close, but the Eagles ended up with the victory, 45-32.
The Allatoona Buccaneers were also in Woodstock for their match with the River Ridge Knights. The Bucs cruised to victory, shutting out the Knights, 38-0.
McEachern picked up where they left off Friday night by dominating the Cedar Grove Saints. After some sloppy play on offense and defense in the early quarters, the Indians got it straightened out and held the Saints to only a single score in the second quarter. The final score was 29-7.
Kennesaw Mountain had the latest start of the Saturday games, getting their game against the Cherokee Warriors back underway at 7:30 PM. Although there were moments of optimism, the Mustangs looked out of it all night. They just couldn’t get anything going offensively, and the defense had a very difficult time containing the balanced attack of run and pass from the Warriors. The Mustangs were defeated 38-0.
