The McEachern Indians hosted the Grayson Rams in a 7A showdown last night. Preseason expectations were high for this game, as McEachern’s QB from last season had transferred to Grayson in the off-season. Carlos Del-Rio has been declared ineligible by GHSA for his senior season however, putting a damper on the coming home party.
The Indian offense started off bumpy, resulting in a punt to the Rams, which they used to their advantage. Grayson converted a passing touchdown from #19 QB De’yon Cannon to #3 WR Jaden Smith making the score 6-0 after missing the extra point.
Grayson struck again in a 3-yard rushing touchdown from #1 Jamal Hanes. The Rams made up for the missed extra point with a two-point conversion, making the score 14-0.
The Indians soon made something happen on offense with multiple first downs resulting in a rushing touchdown for #22 Makari Bodiford. Although the Indians were in close territory, the Rams kept coming. A 45-yard pass touchdown to Jaden Smith for his second touchdown made the score 22-7 after a two-point conversion.
Miscommunication on the Indian offense resulted in a pick-6 for the Ram defense to make the score 30-7 after the two-point conversion. Before halftime, the Indians scored again to make the score 30-13 after missing the extra point.
The Indians remained hopeful after halftime but just could not keep up with the explosive Grayson offense. The Indians scored only once in the second half in a 1-yard rushing touchdown by #7 WR Justus Joseph. On the other end, the Rams scored three touchdowns in the second half with one from #1 RB Jamal Hanes and two touchdowns from #26 RB Phil Mafah.
Next Friday, McEachern takes on the Marietta Blue Devils in another big 7A match up.
