On Friday night the Walton Varsity Lady Raiders faced off against North Cobb in a region match up at Walton High School.
After losing their past 3 games, the Lady Raiders were able to snap their losing streak in a 45-37 win over North Cobb. Throughout the game the Lady Raiders consistently held a lead that was built up in the first quarter by a few early three-pointers from junior Liz Williams. Senior Tomisin Adenupe was also able attack the basket and hit shots from the outside to propel the Raiders over North Cobb in the first half. Though the Raiders held around a 10-point lead during the first half, North Cobb was able to go on a run at the end of the half and cut Walton’s lead to four points entering halftime.
Coming back into the second half, Walton jumped out to a similar start they had in the first half and reinforced their lead. The Raiders kept with a similar offensive approach in the second half, taking many shots from the outside. The Raiders kept up their lead throughout the second half to close out the game.
On the other side of the ball, the Raiders did a fantastic job slowing down North Cobb’s up-tempo quick-moving offense. North Cobb’s inside offense was stopped by strong interior defense by the Raider’s bigs. Walton also came with a strong rebounding effort to limit North Cobb’s second chance points.
Both teams return to regional play on Tuesday, January 19. Walton travels to Harrison to take on the Hoyas, while North Cobb hosts the Hillgrove Hawks at home.
