The Harrison Hoyas varsity football team, undefeated both overall (8-0) and in region (6-0), played against the Sequoyah Chiefs (5-3,4-2) on the chilly night of November 1st. An inspiring student section showed up to support their team; with the theme being Halloween, an array of costumes filled the stands.
During their first drive, the Chiefs scored a touchdown by senior Myles Mcgee. Hoyas were unable to answer the Sequoyah touchdown due to a fumble on the Sequoyah 44-yard line and the Chiefs recovered. The first quarter ended during Sequoyah’s second drive with the score remaining 7-0.
Sequoyah turned the ball over to Harrison, which set up the Hoyas to make a touchdown in the following plays. This TD energized the Hoyas so much they scored two more in the second quarter. On their second touchdown, the ball was placed at the 1-yard line after a long run from senior RB David Roberts. With only three minutes and 26 seconds left before halftime, the Hoyas scored their third touchdown of the second quarter, Brandon Carter (#23), picks off the ball and runs it down for a 54-yard touchdown.
After a mostly uneventful third quarter, the Hoyas only scored one touchdown when Jay Ziegler (#1) scores. The Hoyas dominate the third quarter, with a score of 28-7.
It seems that all of Harrison was feeling confident during the fourth quarter of the game. Two touchdowns secured the Hoya victory with the final score being 42-7. The first touchdown was on a catch by Caleb Williamson, and the second and final TD of the fourth quarter is made from seven yards out by Justin Lewis.
When asked how it feels to be playing on an undefeated team, offensive lineman Tonny Garcia said, “it’s a great feeling to know that all the hard work we’ve put in since last November is paying off.”
Harrison will be playing Creekview at Cobleigh Stadium next weekend. Come support the Hoyas next weekend!
