The Harrison Hoyas continued their undefeated season and are now off to state. The Creekview Grizzlies came out with a few tricks up their sleeve and caught the Hoyas off-guard with a pooch kick on the opening kickoff, but Harrison’s defense produced enough turnovers and stops to negate most scoring opportunities for the Grizzlies.
A few highlights and shout-outs include: The first kick return made there was no recovery by Harrison and the Grizzlies got the ball back. Luckily, soon after that Victor Pless got a pick-6. Ryan Smith got a pick as well but didn’t score. Jay Ziglor had a nearly 60-yard run and was pushed out of bounds at the 2-yard line. Gavin Hall threw a 40 yard pass to Marques Owens and Harrison scored that drive. David Roberts had a 50-yard run and was tackled at the 15-yard line. Both Brandon Carter and Hampton Crook, Harrison’s defensive corners, were missed by the same receiver.
Creekview was also very vocal and played dirty at times, drawing some penalties from Harrison’s retaliations in big moments. Although outscoring them 47-10 the offense played sloppy at times and the defense had too many 3 and outs. The Hoyas will look to correct these mistakes and come out strong in the first round of the playoffs next week.
