Day 2 of the Cross Country GHSA State finals were run on November 2, 2019. CCSD was well-represented in Class 7A with runners from Campbell, Hillgrove, Kennesaw Mountain, North Cobb, Walton, and Wheeler. It was a wintry-type morning, with frost being visible on the grass and trees until the late morning sun melted it away.
The Boys race was up first, with the gun being fired at 9:30 AM. Noah Hayes (Hillgrove) concluded his impressive season with a second place overall, with a time of 16:06.99. Connor Old (Walton) crossed the line in fifth, with a time of 16:18.25. His teammate, Zac Shaffer (Walton), crossed soon after, in seventh with a time of 16:21.24.
The Girls race started right on time at 10:15 AM, but was stopped in the first minute because several runners had fallen down on the first turn. According to the rules, the race was stopped and all runners were ordered back to the line for a restart. The second start went off without incident and the race was on. Grace Ellsworth (Hillgrove) kept a consistent pace throughout the race and narrowly edged out Sarah Burwell (Walton) at the line to take third with a time of 19:30.65.
