On Wednesday, September 18, 2019, the Harrison Hoyas hosted the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs for a varsity softball game. The weather was perfect as the game got underway at 5:30 PM.
The game was something of a slow burn until the 5th inning. Both teams traded innings, getting a few hits here and there, but nothing that produced any points. The Hoyas managed to score one point in the bottom of the 4th with a lead-off triple by Bayleigh Rouse, followed by a double by Emma Grace Walker for an RBI. This would prove to be the preview of what was to come in the 5th for the Hoyas.
After the Hoyas retired the Mustangs with a three-and-out, the Hoyas went on offense and produced four runs. Emma Grace Walker got things going with another double, and a follow-up single by Sara Peterson put runners on first and third. A successful bunt by Grier Bruce drove in a run and put runners back on first and third. A double by Ansley Yantis drove in another run and put runners on second and third, and a walk on the next batter loaded the bases. A single from Saylor McNearney drove in another run. A fly-out ended the inning with the Hoyas up 5-0.
The sixth inning was much the same for the Mustangs; they just couldn’t get their bats going all evening. A double to left centerfield by Bayleigh Rouse drove in two more runs for the Hoyas to close the inning at 7-0. One more three-and-out from the Mustangs in the top of the 7th put the game in the books.
The next game for Harrison is Sequoyah at home on 9/19, while Kennesaw Mountain hosts Marietta on the same night.
