On Thursday, October 8th, the faculty, staff, students, administration, and community of Pebblebrook High School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new fieldhouse.
The evening was upbeat and festive. The gathered crowd heard from senior football player David Coleman, Pebblebrook Principal Dr. Dana Giles, Pebblebrook Head Football Coach Leroy Hood, Cobb Schools’ Director of Athletics Don Baker, as well as representatives from the SPLOST Department and architects from R.K. Redding Construction Inc., who were responsible for building the fieldhouse.
In his short speech before the ribbon-cutting, David Coleman summed up the evening perfectly. “This fieldhouse was built because of the SPLOST dollars from our amazing Cobb County residents and taxpayers,” he said, “and we are forever grateful.”
“Each building on this campus has its own story and history,” Coleman continued, “and we are excited to create a new history and legacy in this building starting this year. On behalf of all the students at Pebblebrook, we would like to thank each and every one of you for making this happen for us.”
After the ribbon cutting, guests were taken on a socially-distanced tour of the new facility followed by refreshments.
Pebblebrook’s Athletic Director, Brittny Jones, was on hand to take part in the celebration. “All of our coaches, athletes, staff, and community are excited and grateful to welcome this new addition to our campus,” she said. “Not only does it look amazing, but it also gives our student-athletes and coaches an opportunity to make lasting memories, and create new traditions here at Pebblebrook.”
Principal Giles agreed: “We are elated to have modern spaces to support our growing athletic program. Its addition to our campus is coupled with current additional building projects to enhance our campus. We are proud to have the fieldhouse in place to add to the growing beautification and expansion of Pebblebrook High School.”
Don Baker had high praise for the project and those who made it possible. “I would like to thank our SPLOST department and Cobb County for their support of this project,” Baker said. “SPLOST plays such an important role in us being able to make wonderful additions to our schools, like the fieldhouse, and it helps enrich the overall student-athlete experience for our kids. This is just one piece of a much larger puzzle at Pebblebrook as we continue with other projects including the recently added new turf field, as well as the soon to be new gym, theater, and classroom spaces.”
“I cannot say enough good things about the administration at Pebblebrook High School,” Baker said appreciatively. “Dr. Giles is a visionary leader whose passion for the Pebblebrook community is unmatched. Brittny Jones is doing a great job leading the Falcons’ Athletic Program and I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside her.”
These are certainly exciting and encouraging times for Pebblebrook and we are anxious to see what the future holds for the Falcons. Go ‘Brook!
