February Madness has begun! Eight 7A schools in Cobb County School District are in the state basketball tournament. The Campbell girls made the cut, as well as the boys teams from Hillgrove, Kennesaw Mountain, Walton, and Wheeler. And three schools—McEachern, North Cobb, and Pebblebrook—advanced both their boys and girls teams to the first round of the tournament this weekend.
McEachern and Wheeler both scored regional championships last weekend. The McEachern Indian girls beat North Cobb by a score of 51-60 to claim the conference title, while the boys also beat North Cobb, 56-76 to win Region 3. The Wheeler Wildcats beat Pebblebrook, 67-70, in a tight overtime game to win the title for Region 2. The Indian girls will be hosting Lowndes in round one, and the boys are hosting Roswell. The Wheeler boys will be welcoming Etowah to the Wildcat Arena.
Other first round girls games include: Colquitt County at North Cobb, Woodstock at Campbell, and Pebblebrook at Roswell.
First round boys games include: Tift County at North Cobb, Kennesaw Mountain at Colquitt County, East Coweta at Walton, Hillgrove at Camden County, and Woodstock at Pebblebrook.
Good luck to all schools and teams in your quest for a state championship!
