It was a perfect day for a run, and Cobb County Schools represented well at the Area 2-7A regional races at Allatoona Creek Park on Wednesday afternoon (10/23/19).
The event was hosted by the Hillgrove Cross Country team and kicked off promptly at 3 PM with the JV Girls race. Gabriela Osornio (Hillgrove) won the race in 20:23.25, with Meghan Flanagan (Hillgrove) in second and Brooklyn McVicker (Marietta) in third, with times of 20:38.10 and 20:44.05, respectively. Hillgrove took the team title, with Marietta and North Paulding taking second and third.
The JV Boys race started at 3:45 and Troy Blackwood (East Coweta) won the race with a time of 17:42.23. Cole Martin (East Coweta) and Hines Doyle (Marietta) finished second and third with times of 17:48.54 and 17:58.66, respectively. East Coweta won the team title, with Newnan and Hillgrove taking second and third.
Varsity Girls ran their race at 4:30 with June Mwaniki (Marietta) taking the top spot with an impressive time of 18:36.64. Grace Ellsworth (Hillgrove) and Sierra Wehrenberg (Hillgrove) took second and third with times of 18:49.18 and 18:54.94, respectively. Hillgrove won the team title, with Marietta and North Paulding finishing second and third.
The Varsity Boys ran last, taking the gun at 5:10 PM. Noah Hayes (Hillgrove) kept a blistering pace throughout the race to easily outpace the field with a new course record of 15:28.21. Kamari Miller (Marietta) and Kyle Harkabus (East Coweta) took second and third with impressive times of 15:35.50 and 15:40.09, respectively. Marietta took top team honors, with East Coweta and Newnan finishing second and third.
